 Lost - again
« Thread Started on Jun 27, 2007, 12:58pm »

Ash had somehow managed to get lost again. Usually, she had a decent sense of direction, but today, it must have been off or something. This was the third time in the past two hours that she had found herself so confused about her bearings that she had to stop and really think about how in the world she had gotten there.

The 'how she had gotten there' thought for this particular conundrum didn't take long. She had followed a small and windy path past Hagrid's hut and into the woods. Never had it crossed her mind that it was a part of the Forbidden Forest - the wood seemed so cheerful that it couldn't be a part of that foreboding place.

Now, she wasn't so sure. The trees had grown quite thick and nearly all the light was gone. With a sigh, she looked further down the path, then back to where she had come from. In all honesty, she wanted to explore more, but since it was forbidden and she didn't have a map - something that was still bugging her - she decided to turn around and head back, half hoping she would run into someone as lost as she was along the path.

Aurelia had decided to investigate the grounds of the school, she had time to spare and was intrigued by the Forbidden Forest. No-one should call something 'forbidden' it just makes it more interesting and harder to resist temptation to have a quick look. Surely there couldn't be anything that dangerous within the dark mass of trees and plants of the forest.

As she walked further into the dense woodland, the sunlight above her became distant until it was almost dark where she stood. She froze as she heard a rustling near her, to the left if she wasn't mistaken and turned her head to face in that direction. Wondering if it was a creature she stepped silently closer, it certainly wasn't a creature as such, but another student. A first year by the look of it, like herself, and she could just about make out the robes of a Gryffindor.

Smirking she crept up behind the student, placing the hood of her black school robe over her head to hide her features slightly, though her dark brown hair was not entirely covered so it peeked out at the side of her face. Standing directly behind the girl she spoke. "Now, now, what's a goody goody Gryffindor doing out in the dark forest all alone? Not lost are we?" She said sarcastically, her characteristic smirk in place, eyes gleaming with excitement.

Ash heard the other student before she saw her. The crunching of branches announced her presence quite well, and judging by the sound those branches made, Ash was sure it was another student like herself or something very similar in size. Ash smiled. Finally, someone else stupid enough to wander into the woods she said to herself with a bit of relief. At least she was heading in the right direction.

Her heart sank though when she realized it was a Slytherin. The thought Here comes the torment was the first one through her mind. And she was right. Predictable, so predictable Ash thought with a sigh before she answered. There was no way she was about to get pushed around by a Slytherin.

"I should ask the same of you" Ash stated as she crossed her arms and put on a very fake smile. "Anyway, no, I wasn't lost, merely exploring. The castle is right over there." She pointed through a gap in the trees. The Astronomy tower was just barely visible, but clear enough to act as a guide. Well, at least I'm lucky. Makes up for my poor sense of direction today Ash mused as she returned her gaze to the Slytherin. "And even if I was lost, guess who just helped me find my way." Her smile broadened. That should be enough to anger the Slytherin sufficiently.

"Now, if you don't mind, I have much more interesting places to be. If you thought there was anything exciting back in there, you would be wrong. I went back quite a ways, and from the makings and dung, nothing comes out until night. If you want to go check, be my guest, but there is honestly nothing back there. Sorry to burst your bubble. Now, if you will excuse me..." Ash stated truthfully as she moved past the other girl.

Aurelia was annoyed as it seemed the girl had heard her arrival, but shrugged it off quickly as the Gryffindor began to speak.
"You should, yes. Doesn't mean you'll get an answer though, does it?" She replied coldly, removing her hood from her head so she could at least see properly. She laughed gently as the girl smiled, clearly she was attempting to hide her true feeling towards her, it was only natural that Slytherin's and Gryffindor's were immediate rivals.

"Oh good, so glad you weren't lost." Aurelia said with sarcasm dripping from her voice once again and flashed her a brief mocking smile.

Aurelia's eyes narrowed at her comment, glaring into the other girl's eyes. "Pity I didn't help you find your way into the path of whatever lives in the forest." She spat. This girl was prime example of a Gryffindor, and confirmed to her that they were to be hated like expected, thingyy little madam this one, being all high and mighty, acting all brave. Oh well, she would have to get used to it.

She frowned slightly as the girl began to make her leave, now if her ears didn't deceive her, Aurelia was sure she had said something about 'dung'. "You're telling me you actually looked at dung?" She said disgustedly. "Whatever takes your fancy." Aurelia shrugged, smirk still in place.

"Well maybe it'll be better to come back at night then." Aurelia replied slyly and watched as the Gryffindor moved past her and began walking back towards the castle.

Ash stopped and turned around. "You wouldn't last a minute out here at night. But then again, your fowl stench might be enough to keep most of the predators at bay. Honestly, I cant see how anything - human or otherwise - can stand to be around you. Are you always so rude and horrible, or am I just lucky?" she asked, her voice dripping sarcasm.

Seriously, I hope she does come back here tonight. Maybe something will eat her and I wont have to deal with her anymore Ash thought vilely to herself. If that girl was a stereotypical Slytherin, then Ashley knew why there was such a rivalry between the two houses. It wasn't in her nature to dislike someone so quickly, but this girl.... The less she saw of her, the better her seven years at Hogwarts were going to be.

"Have fun being eaten tonight!" she stated with a small wave before continuing on the path.

Aurelia was a little surprised at the girl's harsh tone, something that rivaled any Slytherin's no doubt. She took in the Gryffindor's words, not allowing them to have any effect upon her. She didn't see why she was wasting her time with her, she had the entire seven years here after all.

She maintained her cold eyes as the girl finished her rant at her. "Rude and horrible? Look who's talking." She said with a laugh. "And the smell must be from you, not me...it must be a Gryffindor thing." Aurelia spat back at her.

She rolled her eyes as Ash made her way back to the castle, and once she was out of site, decided it would probably be best if she followed suit, though reluctantly. The Gryffindor might tell a teacher she was out here, she couldn't risk getting a detention so soon in her first year. She slowly trudged back towards the large stone building that was now her home, until the holidays at least.

After a few minutes on the path, Ash heard a crunching behind her. A small smile crept to her lips. Looks like the Syltherin's not as brave as I thought she mused.

Ash came to a halt in the middle of the path, then turned around so that she was facing the way she had come from. The forest ended not a hundred feet behind her, giving way to a grassy field with the castle looming above. There was only a few feet of trail left, winding between the trees.

Suddenly, the Slytherin came into view. "Decided to come back, I see. So, are you taking my word for it, or are you just too scared to go any deeper into the forest?" Ash sneered. Either way would prove to be an advantage over the other girl - an advantage that might come in handy someday.

Aurelia trudged through the foliage of the forest, her eyes looking all around her, taking in the area and trying to spot any creatures that could be lurking.

Maybe she would have to come back at night when it was a bit more active, though the risk of getting caught was most probably multiplied after hours and her father would not be happy if she got a detention or worse, she wasn't sure what punishment would be due if she were caught. Punishment was something that she definitely was going to try and avoid for as long as possible, happily passing the blame to someone or something else.

Her eyes narrowed as the Gryffindor came into view, Aurelia would have thought she had left enough time for her to distance herself from the girl. "Why would I be scared of what's in the forest? Unlike you Gryffindor's, us Slytherin's don't pride ourselves on courage." She said coldly. Man, she hated Gryffindor's. "Knowing you Gryffie's you would also go running to the nearest teacher, getting me in trouble, and we don't want that now do we?" She replied, sarcasm dripping from her voice, smirk back in place. She wasn't going to let this girl get to her, she will no doubt get what she deserves...one day, maybe even Aurelia would see to that. "So tell me, what's your name?" She asked, she may as well know the girl's name if only for future reference.

"Ash - it's short for Ashley. But do you even have a name?" she sneered in return. Her dislike for this girl was growing by the minute. If all Slytherins were like this.... well, Ash would have more than one enemy by the end of the year.

The comment about being a Slytherin and not priding themselves on courage struck Ash as a little weird. Was that saying she had nothing to prove or that she wasn't as courageous as the Gryfindors? Probably the first one, but it was still a very strange statement.

"Oh, and no. I wouldn't go tell a teacher. Sure, the prospect of you ending up in detention until 7th year is a nice one, but the prospect of you getting eaten is much better. No worries from me" she stated offhandedly. Getting eaten would be a fitting end for such a vile person.

Ash. Well at least she now knew the girl's name, she would definitely remember that. "Of course I have a name." She replied with a smirk. "Aurelia, Aurelia Newman." She held a proudness in her voice, brought up that way by her parents, not to let anyone get the better of her.

The arrogance the Gryffindor amused Aurelia greatly, she wondered a little whether Ash could have been placed in Salazar Slytherin's house like herself, maybe things would have been different between them. Well she didn't have to think about that, the fact was Ash was a Gryffie, automatic rivals in Aurelia's eyes.

"Well at least being eaten would be an interesting way to go, don't you think?" She retorted indifferently, she smiled wickedly. She had a strange sense of humour sometimes, she quite liked the effects it had on people.
